About the property

Take over a venue with a past. Create Fornebu's next meeting place. This is where Norway once landed – now you can build the place where people come together.

Café Caravelle sits in the oldest part of the former airport at Fornebu, in the buildings dating from 1939. Coffee cups have been on these tables since the golden age of aviation, and we are now looking for a new operator to carry the place forward.

A unique place to run a restaurant

Flytårnet Fornebu is not a shopping centre. It is a living culture street with around 16,000 m² devoted to art and culture: galleries, artists' studios, Bærum Kunsthall, a library, Fornebu Historical Museum, a car museum, the Varmesentralen stage, Papirfly Bar and Fardal Bakeri (opening soon). The hangar houses Norway's largest TV studio, where shows such as The Voice and Norske Talenter are recorded.

Caravelle is the heart of this mix. Guests who come for art, concerts, control-tower tours or TV recordings need somewhere to sit down – and they want more than just coffee. They want atmosphere, and a story to take home.

Nostalgia as a concept

The Caravelle name gives you a head start. It points straight to aviation history and an era when the journey was an experience in itself. With the control tower next door, the 1939 terminal building as your setting and an audience already curious about the past, you can build a concept with soul. Think retro aircraft cabin, a 'departure hall' menu, coffee and cake in flight-school style, or evening dining before and after shows at Varmesentralen. We are happy to let you develop the idea, and we are looking for an operator who wants to be part of Flytårnet's identity.

The premises

The premises are currently being upgraded with modern ventilation, lighting and heating.

  • Commercial kitchen facilities
  • Excellent exposure in the middle of Flytårnet's culture street, with traffic from visitors, tenants and events
  • Good access to parking
  • Room for both everyday service and private functions
  • Potential for outdoor seating, summer evenings and night-time events

A location on the rise

The Flytårnet area is being transformed into a new town centre for Fornebu, with homes, a school and a library, and Bærum Municipality owns and develops the property with a focus on arts and culture. It sits by Nansenparken, a stone's throw from the coastal path and the beach. With the planned Fornebubanen metro line – and Flytårnet as its own stop – your customer base will keep growing over time. Around 130–150 tenants and several hundred jobs also provide a steady daily audience.

Who are we looking for?

A food and drink operator with a passion for food, people and stories. Perhaps you are an experienced restaurateur, a café founder or a concept waiting for the right home. You get a unique setting with an established cultural destination behind you.
